The Recovered Memory Debate(link)
The recovered memory debate of the 1980s and 1990s set the stage for a major battle between victims and therapists addressing childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and those who stood accused of crimes against children. Both sides engaged in faulty rhetoric and poorly executed science in an effort to justify their positions. This paper looks at the main controversy and the core issues and guidelines that emerged from that tumult.
The Neurobiology of Traumatic Stress(link)
Under normal circumstances, the human stress response is geared toward adapting to a perceived threat. When the stress response is over activated or chronically activated, the body and brain can become altered and sensitized to new stressful stimuli. By studying the neurobiology of posttraumatic stress disorder, helpers can better understand the impact of traumatic stress and develop more effective ways of treating it.
The study of stress in the workplace is an ongoing effort to discover both the sources of stress and the best ways to limits its negative effects. Stress is an unpleasant state of arousal that reflects the difference between a demand and an individual’s ability to cope with the demand. This paper will review the literature on the various issues related to stress, burnout, and workforce issues and discuss stress and burnout from a social psychological framework.
